Wildlife resources are important to everyone because they provide food, medicines, clothing and other products. Over-exploitation is a major threat to many species. Check the ingredients of the products you buy for sustainability quality marks. For example, FSC
for timber products, MSC
for fisheries products, or FairWild
for wild plant products.
Don’t buy trouble! When purchasing souvenirs, make sure you purchase items that are made from legal, sustainable sources. If you are buying exotic pets either locally or having them imported, make sure they are legally supplied. Make sure all the paperwork relating to the animal is traceable. With your help, TRAFFIC can continue the fight against illegal and unsustainable wildlife trade. Your donation will help secure a safer future for tigers, elephants, rhinos, sharks and other wild species threatened by trade, and help ensure a more sustainable future for timber, medicinal plants and other wild-harvested commodities and the people who need them.
